19-year-old succumbs to injuries in hit-and-run accident

A 19-year-old girl succumbed to injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) just before midnight on Friday.

Police say Quiara Callender, formerly of Nursery #2, Four Roads, St Philip, was walking with a neighbour around 8:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the pavilion at Rices Main Road. Both were struck by a vehicle, but the driver did not stop.

The neighbour, a male, sustained minor injuries and was treated and discharged.

“Our investigations are at a critical stage. We are appealing to that driver of that vehicle who we believe MUST know that they struck someone or some object to turn themselves in to any Police Station to report this matter they can do so alone or accompanied by a friend or attorney,” said a release from Public Affairs and Communications Officer, Inspector Rodney Inniss in a release.

Police are also appealing to the general public who may have any knowledge about the incident to contact the District C station at 416-8200/8204 or any Police Station or Police Emergency at 211 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS). (PR/SAT)
