Cuban Ambassador Miguel Fraga visits the headquarters of the Dominica Meteorological Service

In a new boost to technical cooperation between Cuba and Dominica, the Cuban Ambassador to Dominica, Miguel Fraga, recently visited the headquarters of the Dominica Meteorological Service, where he had a cordial exchange with Ithoma James, head of this institution. The meeting, held on Tuesday, focused on collaboration in meteorology, a key priority area for both Caribbean countries.

This dialogue is particularly relevant given that, in recent months, Dominica has been visited by two groups of specialists from the Institute of Meteorology of Cuba, who worked on exchange projects aimed at strengthening the capacity of meteorological monitoring. These exchanges lay the groundwork for even deeper cooperation between the meteorological services of both countries in the near future.

The Cuban diplomat highlighted during the meeting Cuba’s experience in weather forecasting and emergency management, emphasizing the value that this knowledge can bring to Dominica. “Cuba has accumulated significant experience in natural disaster management and in improving its weather forecasting capacity, something we are willing to share with Dominica to strengthen its capacity to respond to extreme weather phenomena,” Fraga said.

For his part, Ithoma James expressed his gratitude for Cuba’s support and stressed the importance of collaborating in the training of technical personnel and the exchange of experiences.

Both parties agreed on the need to strengthen communication channels between the meteorological institutions of Cuba and Dominica to improve disaster response.

The visit of the Cuban specialists and this exchange underscore the commitment of Cuba and Dominica to cooperation in critical areas for the region. This strengthening of technical and scientific ties not only seeks to protect lives and infrastructure from the effects of climate change, but also to ensure sustainable and resilient development for both Caribbean nations.

Ambassador Fraga concluded by highlighting the importance of regional collaboration in times when climatic phenomena are more unpredictable and intense due to climate change, and reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to continue supporting Dominica in the meteorological field.
