George
Davis, one of the island’s most respected journalists, is returning to
Nationwide News Network
(
NNN
) as the company’s first deputy executive producer/editor.

The news organisation’s founder and CEO Cliff Hughes, himself a highly respected and veteran journalist, made the announcement on Wednesday, saying that the appointment takes effect on January 16, 2023.

“In this role, George will lead the news, production and online departments, with responsibility for content generation across the company’s on-air, online and digital mobile platforms,” NNN said in a news release, adding that Davis will report directly to Hughes.

Davis comes to the role with more than 17 years of experience in media management, journalism, and broadcasting.

He started his career in broadcast journalism at NNN in 2005 fresh out of the University of Technology, Jamaica and spent at least five years at the station, serving as news and current affairs editor, host of its morning radio show Nationwide This Morning and the company’s flagship drive time evening show Nationwide at 5.

An avid sports fanatic, analyst and commentator, Davis recently completed a stint at SportsMax.

He also served two terms as president of the Press Association of Jamaica.

Commenting on the appointment Hughes said, “As we transition into being a full service digital media broadcast company, this is another one of our key staffing decisions. George is a fantastic addition to the team. He knows news, he knows sports, he knows that digital content generation has to be a key part of the business going forward. He understands the agility required to transform a media outfit in this changing business landscape. He will help lead us into the next exciting phase of NNN’s revolution in media.”

For his part, Davis said he’s happy to be returning to his old stomping ground.

“In many ways Nationwide is home. I’ve always believed in the vision and the mission of revolutionising local media. This is an exciting opportunity to continue that important work. I’m ready to get to work,” he said.
