PORT ANTONIO, Portland — A large group of Portlanders turned out in the melting sun Heroes’ Day at the Port Antonio Square to support the annual Heroes’ Day parade.
The parade was headed by senior justice of the peace Vinnette Mitchell-Forrester, who represented Custos Lincoln Thaxter, who read the Governor General”s message; mayor of Port Antonio Paul Thompson who read the prime minister’s message; and Councillor Wayne McKenzie who read the leader of the Opposition’s message.
Bouquets were laid at the portraits of the national heroes and heroine, while cultural items were rendered by the Port Antonio Theatre Group; Drapers Basic School, paying tribute to National Hero Paul Bogle; and Brianna Brown who recited Maureen Campbell”s Stolen.
