Jemima John, PHD, President,  Commonwealth of Dominica

Jemima John, a behavioral epidemiologist and professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health, holds master’s and doctoral degrees in Epidemiology with honors from Texas A&M University and the University of Texas School of Public Health.

Her research utilizes multilevel and transdisciplinary approaches to examine the contributing effects of non-medical drivers of health on disparities across lifestyles and related chronic conditions. Her research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed health journals and presented at numerous symposia. She has been a guest lecturer at notable institutions, including Rice University, MD Anderson Cancer Center, McGovern Medical School, and the University of Utah.

Dr. John is the recipient of multiple National Institutes of Health grants and was honored with the Kenneth I. Shine, M.D., Academy of Health Science Education Grant Award for innovation in health science education. From 2019 to 2022, she served as an appointed LEAP scholar for the American Psychological Association and serves on the Texas A&M Health Science Center Alumni Association. Outside of academia, Dr. John is passionate about education and mentorship, female empowerment, and community development. She is an avid nature and outdoors enthusiast.
