Proceeds from Sigma Run Shop will help a worthy cause

SAGICOR Group Jamaica is hoping to reach its target of raising $75 million from this year’s Sigma Corporate Run with additional support from its Sigma Run Shop.

The beneficiaries of this year’s event are the University of the Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) Paediatric Unit, which hopes to channel the money towards a new fit for purpose building; and the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts which plans to build a new painting studio as the previous structure was gutted by fire.

Sagicor is encouraging the public to make purchases from an array of attractive, stylish, and event-branded athletic wear available.

“The Sigma shop is another avenue through which we raise funds to get us to our target…[To order], persons can call the Sigma Run Secretariat at 876-936-7980-2 or order via e-mail at Pick-up is on the ground floor of the R Danny Williams Building, located at 28-48 Barbados Avenue in New Kingston],” Christopher Zacca, president and chief executive officer, Sagicor Group Jamaica, told journalists at last Thursday’s Jamaica Observer Press Club.

“We are encouraging persons to support the shop. Buy the outfits — they can wear them to the gym, they can wear them on race day,” he said.

Apart from participating in the race — which takes place on February 12 — and patronising the Sigma Run Shop, individuals and companies can also donate to the cause by writing a cheque made out to Sagicor Foundation Jamaica; making a direct deposit to Sagicor Foundation Jamaica at account number: 5502907486 (Sagicor Bank); using a credit card via website:; donating Sagicor Bank credit card points (business and individual); and by using online patent platform PayPal – Sagicor Foundation Jamaica.

Donations are also being accepted via e-commerce platform Gustazos (Jamaica), up to February 11, 2023. The platform accepts funds in both Jamaican- and US-dollar denominations, Sagicor said.

Donations start at $250 (US$1.60). To donate, Jamaicans may visit, navigate to the Jamaica section of the site, and browse for the Sagicor Foundation donation or directly input the url:

To register for the event, people may visit the Sigma Run website or contact the Sagicor Sigma Secretariat. Registration closes on January 27.

Sagicor Jamaica has assured that all funds raised via the various channels available will go to this year’s beneficiaries.

Dubbed the Legacy Run,’ the 2023 Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run is celebrating its 25th anniversary and will feature the commemorative events of a Legacy Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, February 9 and a Sigma Soca Fete on Friday, February 10.

The corporate run is the largest road race in the Caribbean and has raised more than $550 million in donations for several beneficiaries, focusing on health, child-related and educational initiatives since inception in 1999.
