Decorated surfer Chelsea Tuach flew the Bajan flag highest with her near flawless performances in El Salvador yesterday as she progressed to the third round of the women’s longboard surfing competition at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
Tuach began the day in the second heat of the first round and scored a healthy total of 15.5, with two strong waves scored at 8.5 and 7, respectively. She was too strong for second placed Mia Calderon of Puerto Rico who was second with 10.17.
Costa Rica’s Nataly Bernold was third, some distance behind, with 7.24. Tuach returned in the second round with a comfortable score of 13.83 to propel her into the next round. In second was Venezuela’s Rosanny Alvarez with 8.93.
Teenager Kai St George finished his opening heat in the men’s longboard in third with 5.33 and advanced to the first repechage round where he scored 9.5 to advance to the second repechage and will continue his quest for possible silverware. (NM)
