DOMINICA, THE ORGANIZATION OF EASTERN CARIBBEAN STATES (OECS) AND IICA RENEW COOPERATION STRATEGIES TO INCREASE CLIMATE RESILIENCE AND PROMOTE FOOD SECURITY IN THE REGION

Roland Royer, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy of Dominica, and Didacus Jules, Director General of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), met with the Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Manuel Otero, to discuss joint actions designed to promote climate resilience in agrifood systems across the Caribbean countries.

Trinidad and Tobago facilitate Regional Workshop on Disaster Displacement, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Human Security

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, 9 May, 2024 – The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago welcomed a two-day Regional Workshop on Disaster Displacement, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Human Security from May 8 – 9, 2024. The workshop aimed to address critical issues related to human mobility, human security threats and disaster risk reduction in the Caribbean Region. The event was organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in collaboration with the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission and the Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD). The joint programme is funded by the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security. 

Written Numbers in Everyday Life Project scores big with families, educators

The Written Numbers in Everyday Life (NiEL) Project, a groundbreaking collaboration led by Senior Lecturer Dr. Lois George from The UWI, Mona, and Associate Professor Dr Charis Voutsina from the University of Southampton, celebrated its official launch on May 2, 2024. The project garnered rave reviews from early childhood teachers and principals.

HARRIS PAINTS-UWI GRANT FUNDS REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

The Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES) at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies has benefitted from a substantial grant aimed at bolstering the department’s scientific endeavours and graduate-level education in natural resource and environmental management. This includes student support, funds for research and the purchase of a new drone funded through the Robert L Jones, Harris Paints Environmental Grant.
